8/1/2023 0 Comments Games similar to kingdom tales![]() ![]() Who knew they once had a video game sub-division? Then in 2009, Telltale Games stepped in to play to take over the fifth title, Tales of Monkey Island. It was originally released back in 1990, and the first four installments were developed by no other than Lucasarts games. One of the oldest standing story-driven games is the Monkey Island series. Regardless, it's still a fun light-hearted story-driven title that most gamers will get a laugh from. The story isn't as in-depth as the other titles in this list and for that reason, it takes the fifth spot. Since the games made by the same developers – Telltale Games – as Tales from the Borderlands, you have the same elements of fast-paced and consequential point-and-click gameplay. The game starts off slowly while it develops the story, but it picks up speed as you compete in the yearly build festival, which turns sour. You play as Jessie, but you're accompanied by your pals Axel, Olivia, Lukas, and your adorable pet pig Reuben the star of the show. The story mode is more of a family-friendly Telltale, however, it's nothing short of amusing with it's loveable characters and witty punchlines. It was only a matter of time before Mojang teamed up with Telltale Games to give Minecraft its own official story-driven adventure in 2015, with the Minecraft: Story Mode. Beyond that, players were expanding the capabilities of the game by releasing their own story-driven adventures on Youtube. When Minecraft first came out in 2011, it captivated us all with its limitless potential for creation and exploration. So grab you're popcorn, because it's time we look at the five story-driven games like Tales from the Borderlands. Your choices matter and the consequences of your decisions will tear at your heartstrings in all these titles. Just like in Tales from the Borderlands, all of these games come with alternative endings that are solely influenced by the player's decisions. What goes hand in hand with story-driven games is the multiple storylines that are influenced through decision-based dialogue and gameplay. With all the games compiled from the same developer, Telltale Games, as Tales from the Borderlands, you can rest assured these games are entirely driven by narrative. And if you got a taste of that with Tales from the Borderlands, you surely don't want to skip out on any of the story-driven games like it, in this list. ![]() Story-driven games are like a movie or TV show's playable counterpart. The rest of the games all have the same main character but think of them as single episodic adventures kinda like a fantasy indiana jones lol.Not in the mood for a movie? Looking for something a little more engaging? Then you've come to the right place. All the games are pretty much stand alone stories and origin takes place 700 years and sets up the world. I had never heard of these games until like a month ago when ys origin was like $3 on a steam sale and I bought it on a whim. TBH i still strongly recommend it even if you are skeptical. The combat will probably do it for you if you can tolerate the top down camera. ys 8 is a lot more similar to tales of arise because of the camera but i still feel like ys origins combat still has that feel regardless of the camera angle. After playing Ys Origin I grabbed ys 8 for my steam deck and I love it. The game is only about 10 hours long but you can choose between two different characters that both play differently and then again with a 3rd character once you beat it. You'll probably get around 30 hours out of ys origin and I think its really worth it even if the camera makes it a bit different than tales of arise. The combat is surprisingly good and the boss fights all have their own mechanics and were a blast imo. I still might recommend it to you even if its top down and not 3rd person. Ys origin is still REALLY fun and is the one I started with.
